Nostale Classic

  • Hey everyone,

I just wanted to jump in and share my thoughts at this moment :)

I think the recent situation with the event server actually shows something important — people are interested in something new. The fact that the community asked for the event server to be extended, or even made permanent, says a lot about the desire for a fresh start.

That, in my opinion, is a great indicator that there’s genuine demand for a NosTale Classic or at least a new kind of server. Why not give players a version of NosTale with just the first few expansions — something that captures the old spirit but with minor improvements?

And if that’s not possible, perhaps a brand-new international server with some fresh ideas or twists could work too. Clearly, players are eager for something different — the excitement around the event server proves it.

    Am I right? :)

    Best regards,
    Another

  • I'm in favor of a new Nostale classic + server.

What I want is to rediscover the old artistic direction that made the game so charming.

Today, the art direction has changed a lot and doesn't match what Nostale was originally.

The biggest example: Asgobas in Nostale = Deathwing in World of Warcraft

Why did you do this ? Seriously ? This discredits the game...

The game already has so much potential with its original DA.

  • We can adopt the same strategy as World of Warcraft:

    Phase 1 = Act 1

    Then, depending on player enthusiasm,

    Phase 2 = Act 2

    Then

    Phase 3 = Act 3

Or we can directly ask players for their feedback via surveys.

Personally, I think a nostalgic classic shouldn't go beyond Act 3 (the absolute maximum would generally be Act 4).

    We'll see what others think...

I also think that bringing new graphical improvements (HD) and a multi-platform port, like Flyff Universe did, would be a real pleasure.

This strategy has greatly revitalized the game.

  • Act 1 nostale? I can definitely vouch for the nostalgia, I started playing near launch... 18 years ago would mean I wasn't even a teenager yet. Almost got my account stolen because someone offered to do the sp1 TSes for me, then went ahead and changed my password and the account email... great times. Seriously though I have a lot of found memories, but I was also a dumb kid with a lot of time.

Beyond that, I think I agree with morgoth, while going around the old private shop field, and back to the old pii area that had like 20 pods all in it would tickle the nostalgia bone... do you really want to play Nostale without the bazaar? I think most of the player base has improved immensely since back then, but the grind to even sp2 was pretty nasty back then, with the main questline only giving a couple percent exp per level. I remember tons of mother cuby raids going off, and there were probably ginseng raids back then, but most of us had no res to our name so even that was hard. Would you go back to punishing people who did get to level 50 with an unwinnable ic? It was actually a huge deal the first time the 50+ ic was finished, and that was barely by a few seconds, if I remember the screenshots right. At least the newer one was somewhat possible if not too many people were afk at level 80+ when it first changed... gotta love fighting for drops.

I can't even remember what items there were on the nosmall back then. Brown bushtails and ancellon maybe? Bushtail was pretty op back then but even something like a darko would completely ruin the power balance, so not sure if gameforge could get their just dues in terms of income. Thats part of the charm, without several hundreds of dollars of digital currency needed to be on a somewhat even playing field, but that still only goes so far, and definitely removes some of the motivation for gameforge.

Maybe I was just unaware of it back then, especially since it was so difficult to do, but you would also have multiaccount problems with today's players. I am not sure how much benefit there would be, but there is so little content I could definitely see imbalances with lots of multis.

Act 2 at least gives some content for post level 50, but again I think a lot of the nostalgia wears off in time. I remember going to Lod the first time as a whole crew of like 15 level 45-50, and barely being able to kill 1 reb, and we had a blast doing it. A couple years later you had people selling exp services like crazy, since you could enter Lod at level 1, and lod became a source of a ton of family fights. I think we now understand the game enough that there would be a group who bands together, powers up to level 80, and once again content is just done for them.

I don't recall much how how act 3 and 4 additions changed things, but act 5 was definitely fresh at first, and you could claim its a pretty decent point, but level 90 equip so massively outclasses anything before it that you had to do that grind, and that grind was not fun. I had 3 different characters get to about 87/88 over my time playing nostale before this event server, and that was just the end. I wasn't going to sit thru 20+ lods per level trying to pull off 3 man full map, and people at that point got so upset over missing a single timeslot, or anything. 90 gear was also just so much stronger then anything else that if you weren't 90, you weren't allowed to participate in practically any of the major raids and such.

I personally don't have much interest in replaying all of that, especially in the original form. I agree that if you cap at act 3, you have removed a lot of the power creep, but act 3 is also some of the most tedious stuff I have seen, starting with radal's rings and ending with the 85 weapons that required days of grinding to craft. I don't really know how that compares to the later acts as I never really got into them at all, I have pushed into act 7 on the event server but I can tell how much they have eased that process on that server (holy cow is Otter plus pet trainer OP... and thats the cheap option). I do really dislike how I constantly feel excluded except near the start of these types of new servers, because people rush through the content so quickly and then its just a ghost-town it feels like, but I don't think I would replay act 1 nostale just so I could spam cuby raids... at least not more then a couple weeks.

  • Greetings everyone,

I just want to simplify some things and clear up the confusion.

Nostale Classic shouldn’t be an exact copy of the 2006 release.
It should keep the good features from back then and replace the bad ones with new experiences.

For example, keeping Nos Bazaar is a good idea so players don’t have to spend all their time manually selling items.
Of course, sitting around to sell stuff should remain an option.

Starting with Act 1 only; the content should expand gradually toward Act 2 and beyond.

Nosmall was present before, along with CCs, Bushy, Ancelloans, costumes, hats (if I remember correctly), and other stuff.
They could add a little more, but not too much, so that the gameplay balance isn’t ruined. Of course, by Act 2, Nosmall could be expanded further.

Pii Pod wasn’t meant for “softies” — it was a tough area, but it really paid off when you got that SP2, because many players didn’t have it.

Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what I mean.

    Thank you!

See you soon in Nostale Classic :D

  • Back in 2007 we started with act 1 and act 2 and just the 2 first SP cards.

So I would expect the classic version to start from there, and the pre-nerfed act 3 would also be fun to see again later down the line.

Nosbasar, the bank, Inventory expansions, Gold amount increases, tones of quality of life updates I would definitely want even in classic, stuff that wouldn't entirely mess the nostalgic feeling but still provide easiness.

  • I totally agree with you — everything you mentioned makes perfect sense. I just wouldn’t want it to lose all of the difficulty it had back then. Remember how tough it was to get the Pajama SP? Haha. And Jajamaru… the grind was real, but that feeling when you finally got it was priceless.

Keeping the game challenging while adding modern QoL improvements feels like the perfect balance.

Let's get that Classic Nostale :)

  • To this day, after years, I still don't understand why there isn't a server like this for this game.

The problem is revenue, are you kidding me?

A server doesn't cost as much as you imagine, and moreover, such a server would likely be the most played and most "shopped" NosTale has ever seen in its entire life.

I'm afraid that far too many people aren't very good at math, and that's the result.

In 15 years, they've never committed to making a "different" permanent server, instead of these ridiculous 2-month servers.

If there were truly financial problems, this game would have been closed years ago.

I don't understand how you can't see what's right before your eyes.

This game is doomed to fail; maybe it's time for a change.

  • NosTale Classic represents a huge opportunity to revitalize the game and attract an audience that is currently completely disconnected. The active player base has been decreasing over the years, and although the remaining community is still valuable, it is not enough to sustain real growth. However, there is a much larger group of former players—especially those who played between 2007 and 2014—who no longer participate in forums or Discord but would return if given the chance to relive the original experience.

In the event that the population of the Classic server were to decline over time (which I doubt), that progress would not have to be lost. There is always the option to merge it with the modern version in the future, transferring characters and data without players losing their invested time. In this way, the project becomes a risk-free initiative: if it succeeds, it brings new players and revitalizes the brand; and if it doesn’t, it can be smoothly integrated into the current servers while preserving all progress.

Overall, NosTale Classic would be a smart way to expand the community and bring back a nostalgic audience that currently has no reason to return. I don’t understand why every time this proposal is suggested, it is dismissed...

  • Hello dear NosTale players, I’m sending you this message because I have contacted Entwell to request permission to share my ideas about bringing back a classic version of NosTale, just like World of Warcraft did. In my opinion, the game should have stopped at Act 5 — that’s where the real challenge was born.

I remember it like it was yesterday: spending my nights leveling my job, grinding experience, and reaching the peak level 8 job rank, with a blessing that cost me three instant fights. I want to relive those moments and stay there, with my loyal companions at level 26, taking our time to discover the game and fight. The more I fought enemies, the stronger I felt.

And let me say this clearly: do not try to add new graphics or random ideas that come to mind. Stay true to the natural, classic style of the game. Don’t forget that NosTale is seen by many as a failure — a hated, pay‑to‑win, abandoned game, one that even Gameforge treats like a Fortnite one with skin ,but instead i'ts some skin or stuff useless.

I fight every day to recreate this game with the little strength I have left, just to play it again and level through the first 55 levels with dignity — back when pets like the Brown Ratufu were rare. I wouldn’t say no to seeing rabbit without arm or the Frost Owl return either.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my message. And please, don’t rely on statistics from recent players who never experienced the real NosTale. Let them taste the original recipe of the game — the one where we fought for something.

  • Hey everyone,

Thank you all so much for your interest and amazing comments!

It’s great to see so many people share the same passion for Classic NosTale. All ideas are excellent and show just how much sense a project like this could make.

I’d love for more people to join in, and maybe we could even try to involve someone from the dev team to help bring this idea to life.

    Rock & Roll ! :D

  • I would love this kind of idea. For now i am looking for game to steal my hart once again. I was not so good at this game but i loved it. And i am really looking forward to idea of classic nostale serwer. I hope it will happen.

  • J'ai brièvement résumé dans un article précédent ce à quoi pourrait ressembler Nostale Classic. L'idée serait de revenir au jeu de base tout en conservant les améliorations de confort de jeu apportées ces dernières années.

    Translation:

I briefly summarised in a previous article what Nostale Classic might look like. The idea would be to return to the basic game while retaining the improvements made in recent years to enhance the gaming experience.

  • Hello everyone,

I’ve been following the discussion for a while and I’d like to add a slightly different perspective. Let me explain: while I understand why many people feel that the “ideal” Classic experience should stop at Act 5, i’m not sure that completely freezing the game at a certain point would be the best solution.

Instead of locking the server forever at one specific Act, maybe the better approach would be to allow the game to evolve but with imporvements.

For instance, one of the biggest issues many players have with new content is that new Acts tend to invalidate previous ones. For example, when Act 6 arrived, it unbalanced the progression of Acts 3, 4, or 5.

    Just my thoughts^^

  • I totally agree — the game should keep evolving and not just stop at act 5. The key is I think that each new Act should bring thoughtful, meaningful improvements, rather than repeating the same mistakes as before. If done right, new Acts can enhance the Classic experience with new improvements and attract more players.

I’d love to see more thoughts on this topic :)

  • Am I the only one checking the "News and Announcements" section every day waiting for NosTale Classic?
Don't tell me I am the only one :D
